Clean litter box regularly
Clean the litter box at least once a day and change the litter at least once a week. Although it is never going to be on your list of 'My Favorite Things to Do,' removing the waste and changing the litter is often the best way to control odors. Ventilate the area Place the litter box in a well-ventilated area, in a room with a window you can leave partially open would be best. Add more litter boxes If you have more than one cat, consider getting more litter boxes. The general rule is to have one more litter box than the number of cats in the household. Use a deodorizer Add baking soda, or better yet, add an enzyme product such as Nature's Miracle Litter Treatment to the litter. The Nature's Miracle uses natural enzymes that actually 'eat' the odor-causing bacteria. Use a product like Pet-Clear Crystals to eliminate odor from the air. You may also want to consider installing an automatic air deodorizer. Get a self-cleaning box Consider investing in a self-cleaning litter box. These completely automatic boxes rake away waste into a self-contained bag 10 minutes after your cat leaves the litter box. They are a little pricey, but if you hate or are unable to clean the litter box regularly and want to keep your home odor-free, this is the best solution on the market. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cl...&articleid=1074 -------------------- ![]() <3 RIP Sydney 1/17/08 |

I always thought about a self cleaning litter box but I KNOW that Nolllee wouldnt step near it once she saw that it is electronic... She is so skiddish. I think Tiger wouldnt use it either, Osiris on the other hand probably would. Good article Tiffany!

Do you have both cats use the same litter box? Were they scared of it at first? Maybe if you could give us a link to the one you use, that would be great... I've been considering using an automatic one...but just don't know if I want to spend the $$$ on it or not.... -------------------- ![]() <3 RIP Sydney 1/17/08 |

Both my cats use the same litter box. They were never scared of it Yoda was 1yr and Friday was 9 weeks when introduced to it. It doesn't make any noise or move while they are using it.
http://www.littermaid.com/showproduct.asp?prodID=7 Its really worth it in my opinion but if you really don't want to deal with any part of cleaning a litter box get the CatGenie self washing/self flushing cat box. That will be my next box when my maid dies. They sell very well. -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

I add baking soda to the new box in my bathroom.. I don't have a scooper for it yet and wasn't actually expecting the kitties to use it, but boy has it been used, and it really needs to be cleaned. Funnily enough, it doesn't smell at all. Not even with lots of pee and a few poops. And I'm in there several times a day.
Tidy Cat litter + baking soda apparently equals perfect... -------------------- ![]() |

I put a small handful on the bottom and sprinkled a bit on the top. It worked scarily well.

Yeah he is still a stink bomb. Still kind of gassy and poo's alot. However his bowel movements are becoming more firm. I had his feces tested again and it came back with slight bacteria but no indication of a parasite. Looks like Im gonna have to fork out $117 one of these days to have a fecal sample shipped to the university of minnesota where they can do extensive testing (that cannot be done at the vet).

Good tips.
I have 10 litter boxes and most of the cats like the one in my office. This one I have to clean many times a day. The other cat litter boxes are used but not like this one. I do have an odor after they go, have a few kitties that there you know what really stinks. I have tried Wonder Pet Super Odor Neutralizer spray and it works pretty good. Any other ideas? -------------------- ![]() |

The automatic cat cleaner litter boxes are ok. I had one and my cats broke it and burned out the box.
These work probably for one or 2 cats but not 12. hee hee -------------------- ![]() |

I should add that I switched litters. I am back to Fresh Step. I know that it is high in dust and the scent is kind of extreme but so far it seems to clump the best out of the litters I have tried. Tidy cats didn't clump as well as Fresh Step does... In my opinion. I have also started to use the Arm & Hammer Cat Litter Deoderizer. I put a little at the bottom and then some on the top (mix it up) whenever I clean out the litter box and put fresh litter in. I also sprinkle a little of the deoderizer in everytime i scoop the box... Seems to help alot.
